Amie M. Gordon, PhD, is a social psychologist who researches romantic relationships. For over a decade, Dr. Gordon’s work has helped shed light on the factors that help and harm romantic relationships. Currently she is working at the University of California, San Francisco where she is tackling questions about the role of sleep in relationships.

Dr. Gordon’s work has been published in over a dozen research articles focused on relationship topics such as perspective-taking, gratitude, conflict, sacrifice, depression and sleep. She also writes the blog, Between You and Me, for Psychology Today and provides relationship advice via short podcasts for Mindsail, a personal growth app.

In today’s episode we discuss relationship advice topics that include:

  • The power dynamics involved in relationships.
  • Some of the most interesting findings Dr. Gordon has uncovered in her relationship research and how they can help you.
  • Why we stop seeing the good in a relationship and how to prevent this.
  • How sleep deprivation affects relationships and how to deal with a lack of sleep besides simply sleeping more.
  • How to focus on what you can do for your partner.
  • And much more!
